You may acquire a google analytics tracking ID via a google email account. We suggest using a departmental email address (**vt.edu** or acquired and shared amongst the department) for this. If ever one leaves the University, the analytics (ownership, etc) would still be accessible, as it wouldn’t be tied to just one individual.
When choosing themes or plugins, for security reasons, one should choose one that is updated/maintained fairly frequently, have great reviews and is tested with the latest versions of PHP and wordpress. Paid themes and plugins typically have better maintenance and upkeep.
